StarHub unlocks business growth with the first low-latency multi-cloud architecture
- HubCloud Infinity aims to enhance the delivery, scalability, and performance of StarHub’s mobile, broadband, and entertainment services through a simplified network architecture.
- The goal is to provide new multi-cloud services for enterprises, with connectivity as a packaged service.
As more organizations turn to the cloud for their IT needs, the use of multi-cloud architecture has become increasingly popular. The multi-cloud architecture allows organizations to take advantage of the unique features and capabilities of different cloud platforms while reducing vendor lock-in and ensuring greater flexibility and scalability.
This trend has led to the development of tools and solutions to make it easier for companies to manage and integrate multiple cloud environments, such as multi-cloud management platforms and cloud gateways.
In line with this trend, StarHub, a telecommunications company based in Singapore, has initiated a Cloud Infinity transformation, a unique low-latency multi-cloud architecture that is the first of its kind in the world. This transformation aims to enhance the delivery, scalability, and performance of StarHub services while reducing the costs of running the network business.
The deployment of this network design will allow StarHub to improve customer experiences, launch new services faster, and implement more data security measures. This effort is supported by an additional investment of up to SG$ 40 million that will aid in advancing StarHub’s DARE+ five-year growth program, improve cost efficiency, and position the company for sustainable long-term growth.
StarHub’s approach aligns with the growing trend of multi-cloud architecture. The company can now offer new multi-cloud services for enterprises with connectivity packaged services and future proof for sustainable business growth and massive cost savings.
Singapore’s reliance on multi-cloud architecture.
A report from Nutanix shows that multi-cloud is the most widely used deployment model for IT environments, with the trend expected to rise to 63% in the next three years.
Singapore-based enterprises have a higher adoption rate of multi-cloud use compared to other APAC and global counterparts, with 38% of respondents in Singapore using multiple clouds, private and public, together as their primary IT environment. This is expected to increase in the next three years.
Despite the popularity of multi-cloud as the most used operating model, it still poses several challenges regarding cross-cloud management. Singapore-based respondents identified data integration (53%), security (50%), and application mobility (46%) as significant obstacles in managing multi-cloud environments. These challenges surpass global and regional averages.
Despite this, many enterprises are still struggling to operate across multiple clouds, private and public, while multi-cloud remains the only model expected to grow.
How StarHub addresses multi-cloud challenges.
StarHub addresses multi-cloud challenges and identifies new business opportunities through its Cloud Infinity transformation. This transformation involves adopting a highly scalable and access-agnostic hybrid cloud architecture and simplifying their operating and delivery models. Cloud Infinity allows the company to collaborate with other enterprises to develop platforms and solutions and differentiate their services through low-latency multi-access technologies such as 5G and 10Gbps.
Additionally, StarHub is partnering with leading cloud service providers such as AWS, Google Cloud, NAVER, and Nokia to develop ultra-low latency cloud, communication, and entertainment services. This collaboration allows the company to launch digital applications hosted in edge data centers, providing faster services to end users.
“Having embarked on DARE+ in 2021, we have reached the point where we are no longer just achieving project milestones but going beyond telco to set new benchmarks for the entire industry,” said Ayush Sharma, Chief Technology Officer at StarHub.
Cloud Infinity will help the company achieve maximum agility and serve as a source of innovation for enterprise and consumer businesses. This offering will enable the company to deliver unique, valuable, and fulfilling products and services quickly and reliably to the market.
“We are pleased to work with Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google, NAVER Cloud, and Nokia to deploy this new network architecture, doubling down on digital to realize growth without frontiers, and reimagining what StarHub can be for our customers, partners, and stakeholders,” Sharma added.
Cloud Infinity sets the foundation for StarHub to offer a wide range of Infinity Play services. In addition, the company has plans to launch Cloud-X, a secure platform for cloud brokerage. This platform will allow StarHub to offer sovereign cloud services to government agencies and businesses, providing them with a customized cloud network that satisfies strict data privacy and control needs.
For consumers, Cloud Infinity can enable the integration of Metaverse-like services, which can increase customer engagement through cutting-edge digital features such as augmented reality and holographic overlays.
